Romma+

MechD Design Competition 2021 (2nd Place) - SUTD

The Problem

Throughout my time in SUTD, every class I had been to required the use of extension cords. The design and layout of our classrooms demand the use of extension cords, as the outlets are usually far away or require a step ladder to access them.

The ROMMA+ looks to solve these issues while integrating useful features that will come in useful for the average student. Firstly, the ROMMA+ has a sliding drawer that exposes the extension cord when extended. It has a shelf feature that allows users to tuck away their hefty power bricks to maintain the tidiness of their table. The drawer is designed to close with a 4mm gap, which allows for wires to be easily routed out of the ROMMA+. Secondly, the ROMMA+ features a phone tray and fast-charging USB outlets. This gives students the ease of charging their portable devices. Lastly, the ROMMA+ has a whiteboard integrated on the front, which allows students to pen down important dates or notes. With these three improvements, the ROMMA+ aims to give students a better experience in the classroom space.
